# Overwatch team roles: owner, admin, and viewer permissions

> Understand how Overwatch's owner, admin, and viewer roles control access to monitors, alerts, billing, and team management settings.

Overwatch uses role-based access control to let you collaborate safely without giving everyone the same level of authority. Every member of your organization holds one of three roles — owner, admin, or viewer — and each role determines exactly which actions that person can take.

## Roles at a glance

| Action                                  | Owner | Admin | Viewer |
| --------------------------------------- | ----- | ----- | ------ |
| View dashboard and read monitors | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Create, edit, and delete monitors | Yes | Yes | No |
| Create, edit, and delete alert channels | Yes | Yes | No |
| Invite team members                     | Yes   | No    | No     |
| Change member roles                     | Yes   | No    | No     |
| Remove team members                     | Yes   | No    | No     |
| Manage billing and subscription         | Yes   | No    | No     |
| Delete the organization                 | Yes   | No    | No     |

## Role descriptions

**Owner** is the highest-privilege role. Owners have unrestricted access to the entire organization, including billing settings, plan management, and organization deletion. Only an owner can invite other members and assign the owner role to someone else. Each organization has at least one owner.

**Admin** can do everything related to day-to-day monitoring operations: creating and configuring monitors, setting up alert channels, and editing organization defaults. Admins cannot access billing, invite members, or delete the organization.

**Viewer** has read-only access. Viewers can see the dashboard, browse monitor status and check history, and view alert channel configuration — but cannot make any changes.

<Note>
  Only owners can access the **Plan** and billing settings. If you need to update your subscription or payment method, ask your organization's owner.
</Note>

## Viewing your role

To see your current role:

1. Go to **Settings → Account**.
2. Look at the **Role** field. It displays your current role: `owner`, `admin`, or `viewer`.

<Tip>
  If you need a different level of access, contact your organization's owner. Only owners can change member roles.
</Tip>

## Changing a member's role

Role changes are managed by the organization owner through **Settings → Team**. The owner can remove a member and re-invite them with a different role to change their access level. It is not possible to change a role in-place for existing members — the member must accept a new invitation.

<Warning>
  You cannot demote or remove the organization owner while they are the **only** owner. To transfer ownership, invite the new person with the **Owner** role; once they have joined, remove the previous owner from **Settings → Team**. If you cannot complete a transfer that way, contact [hello@processfoundry.io](mailto:hello@processfoundry.io).
</Warning>
